St Mathew's Church, Bethnal Green 2019
John Abraham Bay was born in 1781 to Abraham Bay and Elizabeth Coxon. He was baptised at Saint Mathews Church, Bethnal Green, London.
John Abraham was a Huguenot. Bethnal Green and Spitalfields housed a large influx of Huguenots, many of whom worked as silk weavers.
He married Mary Gladwin at Prestbury Parish Church, Cheshire in 1799 and the couple had five children. The marriage record states that he was a silk weaver.
Whilst I can find no more information about John Abraham, it is reasonable to assume that he worked in the silk industry when he moved to Macclesfield. Macclesfield was home to a growing silk industry with large silk mills.
John Abraham died, aged 59, and was buried at Macclesfield.
